Looking for a winter family getaway in Southeast Asia? Phu Quoc in Vietnam is back on many lists. From November, the island shifts from the rainy season to the dry season, making it a great time to combine beach days with theme parks. Vietnam’s tourism authority also notes that the weather improves after October, with December and January among the best months to visit.
The key to a Phu Quoc trip with kids is splitting your days between the north and south of the island instead of cramming in sights.
Here’s everything in one place: November weather, a kid-friendly 5-day itinerary, VinWonders, Vinpearl Safari, the Hon Thom cable car and Sunset Town.
1. Is November Really the Dry Season in Phu Quoc?
In short, think of November as the transition into the dry season.

Phu Quoc averages about 27°C year-round, and official tourism information says the weather generally settles after October. Until early November, though, the tail end of the rainy season can still bring showers and rough seas.
So for a November trip, don’t lock in island-hopping or sea activities on day one. Keep them flexible and check the local forecast.
That goes double with kids. On rainy days, head to the VinWonders aquarium or relax at your resort; save the Hon Thom cable car and beach for the sunny days.
December and January are the more stable dry months, so they’re a great choice for a winter-break family trip.
2. Split Your 5 Days Between North and South Phu Quoc
This is the first thing to know before planning an independent trip.

It’s easiest to think of Phu Quoc in three parts: the north with VinWonders and the Safari, the center around Duong Dong, and the south with the Hon Thom cable car and Sunset Town.
With kids, I don’t recommend going north and south on the same day. You’ll spend more time in the car than at the attractions.
Here’s how I’d plan a 5-day family trip:

- Day 1: Arrive → hotel check-in → rest → Duong Dong night market
- Day 2: Vinpearl Safari → Grand World
- Day 3: A full day at VinWonders Phu Quoc
- Day 4: Hon Thom cable car → Aquatopia Water Park → Sunset Town
- Day 5: Resort time → airport
One big plan per day works better than nonstop sightseeing — and in my experience, families enjoy it more.
3. With Kids, Start With Vinpearl Safari
If you’re looking for the best things to do in Phu Quoc with kids, Vinpearl Safari belongs near the top.
It works for everyone from toddlers to elementary schoolers.

As of 2026, the official hours are 08:30–16:00, so a morning visit is best. Besides animal shows, there’s a Junior Zookeeper program for kids.
After the Safari, head to nearby Grand World in the north. Its buildings line a canal, and it looks even more dazzling after dark, so the Safari in the morning and Grand World in the late afternoon is a natural route.
Rather than trying to do the Safari and VinWonders in one day, split them: Safari plus Grand World one day, VinWonders the next.
4. VinWonders Deserves a Full Day
VinWonders Phu Quoc isn’t just a theme park.

With rides, a water park, an aquarium and shows, you’ll stay longer than you think with kids.
As of October 2026, official hours are 09:00–19:30 daily, though zones like the water park and aquarium have slightly different hours.
Official 2026 standard tickets are 950,000 VND for adults and 710,000 VND for children between 1 m and 1.4 m tall. Prices and promotions change, so check the official website for your travel dates.
If you stay into the evening, check out the Once show (scheduled for 18:45–19:05 as of 2026).
With young children, decide on the aquarium, water park and age-appropriate rides first instead of trying to ride everything.
5. In the South, Pair Hon Thom With Sunset Town
The highlight of southern Phu Quoc is the Hon Thom cable car.

Running from An Thoi to Hon Thom Island, it stretches 7,899.9 m, and a one-way ride takes about 15 minutes. It’s a Guinness World Record–listed three-rope cable car, and the view of the islands below is an attraction in itself.
Hon Thom has Aquatopia Water Park and other attractions, so with kids, plan at least half a day.
As of 2026, Sun World’s official website lists hours of 09:30–17:00, but notes they may change. Once you’ve chosen your date, double-check that day’s schedule.

After Hon Thom, stay in Sunset Town rather than driving elsewhere.
Sunset Town brings together the Kiss Bridge, a seaside promenade, restaurants and evening shows, so it’s easy to spend the afternoon through the night there. Phu Quoc’s official tourism portal also suggests it as a half-day plan from afternoon to the night show.
The lights come on around sunset, so for photos, arrive before dusk rather than after dark.
6. The Secret to Phu Quoc With Kids: Do Less
A 5-day Phu Quoc trip never runs short of things to do.

In fact, with VinWonders, the Safari, Grand World, Hon Thom and Sunset Town all on offer, it’s easy to overpack your schedule.
With kids, one main attraction per day — or two in the same area — is plenty: one day in the north, one at VinWonders, one in the south.
Leave time for the resort pool and beach, and you’ll have a true Phu Quoc family vacation.
If you’re traveling between November and winter break, leave room to adjust outdoor plans for the weather and sea conditions.

For a first family trip to Phu Quoc, 5 days strikes the easiest balance between sightseeing and relaxing. If your kids love theme parks and animals, Phu Quoc offers far more than a typical beach escape.
