Some trips are about seeing new places. This one was about hitting reset — and a caravan in Nonsan delivered exactly that.

Why We Chose Nonsan — and Airbnb
The daily grind of parenting, work, and constant productivity had worn us down. We needed more than a hotel room — we needed a space that felt like ours. After searching through countless options, we found a beautiful American-style caravan on Airbnb, tucked into the quiet countryside of Nonsan, South Korea.

Why Airbnb over a hotel? Simple: connection. Hotels split families across rooms and floors. This caravan was entirely ours — private, warm, and completely kid-friendly. No noise complaints. No shared walls. Just our family, together.
The Caravan: An American Road Movie in Korea

The moment we arrived, my child gasped: “Are we in America?!” — and honestly, I understood the reaction. This full-size American-style caravan had presence. Walking through the door felt like stepping into a road movie.
1. Surprisingly Spacious

Forget the cramped caravans you might be imagining. The extended living area and high ceilings made the space feel genuinely roomy. Plush sofas, a cozy main bedroom, and a bunk-bed style kids’ sleeping nook that my child immediately claimed as a “secret base.”

2. Full Kitchen & Heating
A full kitchen with gas stove and large fridge meant we could cook our own meals — one of the great joys of Airbnb over a hotel. Outside, the cold was biting. Inside, the heating was so effective we ended up peeling tangerines on the sofa reading comics. Perfection.

Winter Nights: BBQ & Campfire

When the sun goes down, caravan life truly begins. On our private deck, we fired up the grill — charcoal smoke drifting into cold winter air, meat sizzling, stars appearing overhead. No hotel restaurant comes close to this feeling.

After dinner, we lit a campfire and gathered around it. Toasting marshmallows with my child, talking without phones, actually looking at each other — this was the digital detox we didn’t know we needed.

Nonsan Strawberry Picking: A Winter Must-Do
Nonsan is South Korea’s strawberry capital — and skipping the farm experience would be a crime.

Our Airbnb host went above and beyond — not just handing over keys, but sharing local restaurant recommendations and helping us book the best nearby farm. That personal touch is something no hotel concierge can replicate.

The greenhouse doors opened to a wave of sweet strawberry scent. Modern “high-bed” farming means even young children can pick at eye level without bending down. Watching my child bite into a strawberry they’d just picked — that smile said everything.

We also made strawberry jam and strawberry syrup on-site — another memory packed into a single morning.

Nonsan Travel Course: What Else to See
1. Sunshine Land & 1950 Studio

Famous as a filming location for the drama “Mr. Sunshine,” Sunshine Land’s 1950 Studio is a meticulous recreation of Korean streets in the early 1950s. Crumbling buildings, vintage signs, old cinema facades — it felt completely real. A living history lesson for kids and a retro photo paradise for adults.

2. Nonsan Hanok Village

From an American caravan to 1950s Korea — and now to Joseon Dynasty Korea. Nonsan’s traditional hanok village offered a completely different kind of peace. Sitting on a wooden veranda under a tiled roof, winter sun warming our faces — genuine rest for the soul.

The contrast between our modern American-style caravan and this ancient Korean village made the trip feel wonderfully layered.
Coming Home to the Caravan
No matter how much energy we spent exploring, we always had a warm, private home to return to. Like athletes resting between competitions, our Airbnb gave us the recovery space we needed to wake up refreshed and ready for the next day.
