If you want Han River views, a stroll, a picnic and an exhibition without leaving central Seoul, Nodeulseom Island deserves another look.
With its new riverside cultural space opening in September 2026, the island has far more places for families to walk and linger — eco gardens, a play garden and a trail along the river.
Here’s what you need: how to get there, parking, things to see with kids, sunset timing and current events.
1. What’s New on Nodeulseom Island in 2026
- Address: 445 Yangnyeong-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul (middle of Hangang Bridge)
- Outdoor areas open 24 hours
- No admission fee
Nodeulseom Island is a cultural complex in the middle of Hangang Bridge.

Many people only know the lawn and Nodeul Square, but there’s also a bookstore (Nodeul Seoga), Nodeul Gallery, a live music hall and the riverside cultural space.
The biggest change is that riverside space, opened on September 18, 2026.
It adds an eco garden, play garden, grass garden and pocket gardens, plus a roughly 1.5 km loop trail along the water. Instead of viewing the river from a distance, you can walk and rest right beside it.
For families, this matters: adults enjoy the river views while kids use the play garden and trails.
2. Start With the Riverside Trail
I recommend exploring the waterfront before heading indoors.

The loop trail around the waterfront is about 1.5 km — easy even for families who aren’t out for exercise, with gardens and rest areas along the way.
With kids, add the new play garden. The old Nodeulseom was mostly a lawn for picnics; the new gardens give children space for children to move and play.
Note that the island is being developed in phases as the “Nodeul Global Art Island.” The floating garden is due in December 2027 and the sky art garden in 2030, so what you see as of 2026 isn’t the final version.
3. Go in the Late Afternoon for Sunset
If you pick one time to visit, arrive in the late afternoon and stay for sunset and night views.

The lawn has wide views of the river. As the sun lowers, the scenery toward Yeouido changes, and the light before dark is perfect for photos.
With kids, try riverside trail → play garden → lawn, then stay until sunset. Allow 2–3 hours for the island alone, more if you add an exhibition or show.
The main outdoor areas are open 24 hours, but indoor facilities have set hours: generally March–October, Tuesday–Friday 10:00–21:00 and weekends/holidays 10:00–22:00, closed Mondays and designated holidays. Hours vary by facility.
4. Add an Exhibition With Kids
Nodeulseom is more than a park.
Nodeul Gallery hosts changing exhibitions, and the Nodeul Seoga bookstore is worth a browse. Programs and hours vary, so check the official Nodeulseom website for your date.
An indoor exhibition between bouts of running around outside makes the day much easier with kids — nature and culture in one Han River outing.

Date-specific programs such as the “Nodeul Hanbakwi 2.0” space tour also run, so check if one fits your schedule.
5. Autumn Bonus: The Han River Light Island Festival
Visiting in early October 2026 is a little different.

From October 2 to 11, Nodeulseom hosts the 2026 Seoul Light Han River Light Island Festival, 18:30–22:30, with free admission. Laser art and media art are displayed against the backdrop of the river and the island.
Explore the waterfront by day and stay for the evening. For kids, the laser art after dark is a highlight on its own.
Daytime walk → sunset → evening light festival makes a half-day plan without moving between attractions.
During the festival (October 2–11), the island is open every day with extended hours of 10:00–22:30.
6. Parking Is Possible, but Transit Is Better
You can drive to Nodeulseom Island.

Parking normally costs 1,000 KRW for the first 30 minutes, then 300 KRW per 10 minutes, up to 15,000 KRW a day. But with only about 69 spaces on the west side and 21 on the east, space is tight, and the official website recommends public transport.

During the festival (October 2–11, 2026), the west parking lot is fully closed. If you drive, Ichon Hangang Park parking lots 3 and 4 are the suggested alternatives.
By subway, take Line 9 to Nodeul Station, exit 2, and walk about 600–700 m toward Hangang Bridge. Buses stop right at “Nodeulseom,” which can be easier with little ones.
7. Check Food Options Before You Go
The island is changing, so don’t assume the restaurants and cafés from older reviews are still open.
According to notices for the second half of 2026, some food and convenience outlets are closed as their contracts ended.
Instead, food trucks run around Market Tteul from September 1 to October 31, 2026, selling handmade burgers, hot dogs, sotteok skewers, cotton candy and dippin’ dots–style ice cream; days and menus vary by truck.
With kids, plan on snacks on the island and proper meals before or after.
How to Enjoy Nodeulseom Island With Kids
Nodeulseom isn’t a theme park with rides.

It’s more of an urban family outing: walk by the river, play in the gardens and catch an exhibition or show. The new riverside space gives even past visitors a reason to return.
My plan: arrive around 4 p.m., walk the riverside trail and play garden, watch the sunset from the lawn, then stay for an evening program. In early October, the light festival makes it an especially good time.
Nearby Places to Pair
If you want more, combine it with the National Museum of Korea for history and culture, or Yongsan Family Park for more outdoor time.
Is Nodeulseom Island Worth Visiting?
If you want to enjoy the Han River without traveling far, yes. The new riverside trail and gardens have added lots to see and space to walk. With kids, explore the play garden and trail and arrive late in the afternoon for the sunset.

During the light festival, day and night feel completely different, so start in the afternoon and stay through the night views.
