Jeongseon Arirang Festival 2026: The Plan

Taking elementary kids to the Jeongseon Arirang Festival? Instead of back-to-back performances, combine the Arirang Museum, the parade and family activities for a full two-day October trip in Gangwon-do.
Festival Essentials

The 51st Jeongseon Arirang Festival and the 14th World Korea Arirang Festival run October 1–4, 2026, around Jeongseon Public Stadium. Highlights include the Chilhyeon ancestral rite, the opening theme performance, the Arirang parade, a national Arirang singing contest and an A-POP contest, across about 108 events in 12 categories.
Who Will Love It

Families who love song, dance, traditional costumes and hands-on activities. Arirang sounds different by region and singer, which is fun to discover. Younger kids who cannot sit through long contests should focus on the parade and activities.
Two-Day Route
Day 1 is all about the festival.

11:00 arrive in Jeongseon → lunch near Jeongseon Arirang Market → check in → afternoon family activities and exhibits → Arirang parade → early dinner → opening or evening show.

Day 2: 10:00 Arirang Museum → compare Jeongseon Arirang with other regional versions → kids’ activity sheets → Auraji or Byeongbangchi viewpoint → cafe and home. Pick one show, one activity and the parade as your core.
Arirang Museum Hours and Fees

Open 10:00–18:00, closed Mondays, January 1, and Seollal and Chuseok days. Admission is 2,000 won, refunded as local gift vouchers, and kids’ activity sheets are available. Check for extended hours during the festival.
Festival Fees and Reservations
The official outline does not list a single festival entry fee or per-program booking rules.

Workshops and seated performances may have limited slots per session.
Parking and Transport

The main venue is around Jeongseon Public Stadium, and programs may extend to the Arirang Center and downtown. Park at your hotel and walk. By public transport, use Jeongseon Bus Terminal.
Tips with Kids
Give kids a small sketchbook to note “the slowest Arirang,” “the most upbeat Arirang” and “the most memorable costume.”

Rather than explaining Jeongseon Arirang in words, sing the chorus together and clap the rhythm.
Food and Cafes

At Jeongseon Arirang Market, try Gangwon dishes like gondre (thistle) rice, kotdeungchigi buckwheat noodles and buckwheat crepes. Pick one cafe in town with parking, or on the way to Auraji.
Pros and Cons

Pros: kids learn Arirang, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, through shows, exhibits and activities, plus Jeongseon’s food and autumn scenery. Cons: with so many events, a poor route means long walks between stages; rest midday if staying late.
Notes
Final daily schedules, guest performances, temporary parking and shuttles may still be added; do not rely on past years’ times.
