From October to early November, it’s the autumn festival season, when lights, flowers and food come together,
making it a great time for a family trip with kids.

Huis Ten Bosch’s opening hours vary by day of the week and seasonal events.

- Hours: usually 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (extended to 10 p.m. on weekends and during Halloween and Christmas seasons)
- 1-Day Passport: around 7,400 yen for adults, with all-day entry and most major attractions included
- After 3 Passport: around 5,600 yen for adults, entry after 3 p.m., ideal for evening illuminations and fireworks
Why Autumn Is the Best Season at Huis Ten Bosch
In autumn, the whole park turns into an art stage.
Warm lights and music fill every street, and the European buildings glow golden.
Here are three main events you shouldn’t miss.
Aurora Light Show (Illumination)
- Location: Waterfall of Light (map E5)
- Time: from 8:45 p.m. for about 10 minutes (as of 2025)
- Highlight: a large aurora projection show linked with the Water Garden fountain show
Seeing the entire building bathed in light is overwhelming.
It’s far more beautiful in person than in photos.
Haunted Halloween and Miffy’s Halloween
- Period: September to October (as of 2025)
- Highlight: the peaceful Dutch town turns into a Halloween town
- Haunted Halloween: a horror zone with real actors, recommended for adults
- Miffy’s Halloween: Miffy in a witch hat and a parade, popular with kids
Miffy Wonder Square in particular could fill a whole day with kids.
With cute characters and photo zones everywhere, it’s perfect for photos.
Taste of Kyushu: Autumn Food Festival
- Period: September to October (as of 2025)
- About: a local food festival using seasonal ingredients from across Kyushu
- Recommended dishes: Kyushu beef steak, Kumamoto sweetfish rice bowl and Miyazaki chicken nanban
Autumn at Huis Ten Bosch is perfect for food lovers too.
The smell of Kyushu home cooking along the streets even made me stop for a moment.
Huis Ten Bosch Fireworks Season
Autumn at Huis Ten Bosch is pure romance: attractions by day and fireworks by night.
From October to the end of the year, themed fireworks festivals continue, so if you time your trip well, you can enjoy European charm and fireworks together. Here was the 2025 schedule:
- October: Halloween Party Fireworks (October 11 and 12, November 1 and 2) for a bright orange night
- November: Kyushu’s Best Fireworks Festival (November 15, the largest in western Japan with 22,000 shells)
- Christmas: Holy Night Fireworks (November 22 and 23, December 24 and 25) for a romantic mood
- Year-end: Grand Finale Fireworks (December 26 to 30) to close the year
Fireworks viewing tips
- Arrive at least an hour early to get a good spot.
- Guests at Hotel Europe and Hotel Den Haag can use a dedicated viewing area for free.

It’s the world’s only three-story carousel, elegantly European by day and magical with illuminations at night.

An attraction that opened at Huis Ten Bosch in 2024.
A 4D motion ride with 360-degree sound makes you feel like you’re on an undersea exploration mission.
If you’re with kids, be sure to try it; the technology and immersion are impressive.
③ Flower Fantasia
An indoor flower garden where scent, lighting and music create a healing space.
Decorated with autumn flowers such as cosmos and dahlias, it’s a popular photo spot.
It’s great for taking photos as you walk and perfect for a short break.
④ Miffy Wonder Square
The world’s only Miffy-themed area.
With a Miffy picture book gallery, goods shop and photo zones, it’s heaven for fans.
A meal at Everyday Celebration Kitchen, which kids love, is a must.

The interior is decorated with Miffy characters, and the menu is adorable too.

and omurice set I had
looked great and tasted great, pleasing both kids and adults.
Tip: register on the mobile waiting list right after you enter the park.
Waiting on site can take over an hour.
Huis Ten Bosch in Sasebo felt like a Japanese destination more European than Europe.
Laughter with our child by day and the magic of illuminations by night
gave the whole family an unforgettable day.
