If you want a proper healing break in a single day, I recommend a day trip to Yesan in Chungcheongnam-do.
I used to think of Yesan only for its suspension bridge, but after visiting, I found it packed with forest walks, history experiences, market food and a hot spring foot bath.
Here are five key spots in Yesan you can cover in 6 to 7 hours by car, with our honest reviews.
First Stop on a Yesan Day Trip: Naepo Bobusang Village

It’s a hands-on village recreating the lives of late Joseon merchants, with a market street, exhibition halls

and a play yard, so it’s great with kids. Take photos in traditional costume for some lovely shots.

Our child loved the traditional games area. It felt like becoming a Joseon-era salt merchant.
Metasequoia Road: A Healing Walk Through a Green Tunnel

This road is lined on both sides with dense metasequoia trees. Park the car and walk slowly, and fresh air you can’t find in the city fills your lungs. Sunlight filtering through the leaves makes the whole road a photo spot.

Even a short walk felt cleansing.
Deoksan Hot Spring Foot Spa: Free Hot Spring Water

Deoksan, one of the four major hot springs in Chungcheongnam-do, offers its hot spring water at a public foot spa. It’s perfect for relieving the fatigue of a day trip. Just bring a towel and slippers, and anyone can use it for free.
A chat with a local elder at the foot spa was an unexpected highlight of our Yesan trip.
Yesan Market: A Paradise of Local Food

The market is full of local food such as gukbap, noodles and skewers. A renovated old mill

has a strong retro feel. You can grab a quick meal and buy souvenirs too.

We had the market’s Yesan noodles along with grilled meat, a taste you’ll never find at a chain restaurant.
Yedang Lake Suspension Bridge: Yesan’s Signature Sight

At 402 meters, it was the longest suspension bridge in Korea when it opened. Walking over the lake feels truly different. By day you can enjoy the cool water views,

and in the evening, the lights and musical fountain show.

The misty Yedang Lake seen from the middle of the bridge looked like an ink painting.
Suggested route:
- 10 a.m.: Naepo Bobusang Village
- 11:30 a.m.: metasequoia road walk
- 1 p.m.: foot spa and a light lunch
- 2:30 p.m.: Yesan Market and a proper food tour
- 4 p.m.: Yedang Lake Suspension Bridge
- 6 p.m.: head home, or dinner and night views
Most stops are 15 to 20 minutes from Yesan IC, so getting around is easy. I highly recommend it for trips with kids or parents.
Yesan isn’t just a countryside stop; it fills a short day with real value. It’s about an hour and a half from Seoul and the capital area, so why not take a light weekend trip?
