If you’re visiting Huis Ten Bosch on a self-guided Nagasaki trip, there’s one hotel worth staying at at least once.
Set in a refined classic European world, it impresses with flowers, music, dining and service alike.

Hotel Europe: Award-Winning Breakfast at Huis Ten Bosch
Hotel Europe won first place for breakfast in the Kyushu 301-plus-room category of the 2021 Jalan Awards’ “Best Hotels to Stay At.”
It truly felt like a once-in-a-lifetime hotel, and as the top hotel inside Huis Ten Bosch it was full of touches you won’t find at an ordinary hotel.
The private cruise check-in, early park entry and canal-view room made every moment special, so I’ve packed all my tips into this post.
1. Luxury Check-In by Cruise
The highlight of Hotel Europe is checking in by private cruise boat.
You leave your bags at the Welcome Area, board at the private pier and set off along the canal toward the hotel.

As soon as I stepped on board, I heard live music. Classical melodies drifted along the canal and I felt like an 18th-century European aristocrat.

Soft classical music fills the boat as the grand facade of Hotel Europe slowly appears between European-style buildings.

At the end, staff greet you at a red-carpeted pier, a moment so beautiful you’ll want to film it.
As of 2025, check-in cruises ran every 30 minutes from 15:00 to 17:30, and check-out cruises at 9:00, 9:23, 9:45, 10:00, 10:23, 10:45, 11:23 and 11:45.
2. Room Review: Pure European Style
Hotel Europe is a six-story building with 310 rooms. It was built in 1992, but it feels like a European mansion more than a century old.

I couldn’t help saying “wow” when I opened the door.
High ceilings, antique furniture and windows overlooking the canal.

It feels like walking into a 19th-century European manor.

My canal-view Deluxe Triple Room had:
- High ceilings and a wonderful sense of space
- Classic lighting and furniture in perfect harmony
- Soft, fluffy bedding that melted away a whole day’s fatigue

There were three super-single beds with plenty of space, and the bedding was truly luxurious. The crisp white linen felt like lying on a cloud, and the pillows were just the right height and softness. I slept wonderfully that night.

My room overlooked the canal. When I drew the curtains, the canals and European buildings of Huis Ten Bosch spread out like a painting. In the evening, the lights reflect on the water for a truly romantic mood.
In the morning, opening the curtains to the sunlight is simply stunning.

The bathroom was as impressive as the room. Open the door and you find a spacious marble space on a completely different level from a business hotel bathroom.

Toiletries were from a premium brand, and the bathrobe was wonderfully soft. Towels were thick and absorbent, and the powerful hair dryer made quick work of drying my hair.
3. Hotel Europe Guest Perks
Make the most of the premium perks offered only to Hotel Europe guests.
These alone double the value of your stay.
1. Cruise check-in and check-out (for eligible guests)

You can travel between the Welcome Area and the hotel by cruise, enjoying a touch of luxury before your stay even begins.
2. Huis Ten Bosch onsen
Hotel Europe guests can use the Huis Ten Bosch onsen, with its large bath, open-air bath and sauna, by paying only the 150-yen bathing tax.
A shuttle bus makes it easy to get there, and soaking after a day at the theme park melts away fatigue.
3. Early park entry before opening

The day after check-in, you can enter through the Harbor Gate one hour before regular opening.
It’s the best perk for enjoying popular attractions in Miffy Wonder Square, like Sky Carousel and Mission Deep Sea, with no lines.
Tip: have breakfast around 7 and head to the Harbor Gate before 8 to match the early entry time.
4. Free luggage delivery
Leave your bags at the luggage storage at the Huis Ten Bosch entrance and they’ll be delivered to your room about three hours later.
After check-out, luggage can also be sent to the Farewell Gate.
You can enjoy Huis Ten Bosch completely hands-free.
5. Ticket extension
If you buy an admission ticket at the front desk on your check-in day, you’ll get an extended ticket valid through your check-out day.
That made my schedule much more relaxed.
4. Why the Breakfast Ranks No. 1: Anchor’s Lounge and Kissuitei
I could see for myself why it won first place for breakfast in Kyushu at the 2021 Jalan Awards.
Hotel Europe offers a choice of two breakfast venues.

1. Anchor’s Lounge: Western buffet

- Freshly baked croissants, bacon, salad, yogurt and fruit
- Omelets made to order by the chef (highly recommended)

- Coffee, tea, juice and even wine from the morning
- Nagasaki’s famous castella

2. Kissuitei: Japanese set breakfast
- Grilled seasonal fish, rice, miso soup, side dishes and rolled omelet
- Neat, elegant kaiseki-style presentation

I didn’t eat at Kissuitei, but it looked beautifully presented and well worth trying.

My pick: don’t miss the omelet from the live kitchen.
Its creamy center and tender texture are outstanding.
Breakfast is included depending on your room rate; as of 2025, it cost about 4,000 yen per adult otherwise.
The atmosphere, flavor and service were the best at Huis Ten Bosch.
Verdict: A Hotel Where Every Moment Impresses
Hotel Europe offers more than just a place to stay.
Cruise check-in, European rooms, early entry, onsen and breakfast
all come together perfectly in Huis Ten Bosch’s ultimate hotel.
