Our babymoon felt short as always. There are two famous restaurants at Moseulpo Harbor: Sanbang Sikdang, known for milmyeon noodles, and Okdom Sikdang, known for bomal kalguksu. The hotteok shop owner had recommended Sanbang Sikdang, but we couldn’t go this time. Sanbang Sikdang is popular with tourists and Jeju locals alike, and people keep coming back. We were already at Okdom Sikdang, so we lined up for bomal kalguksu.

They open at 11 a.m. To get the real deal, you should arrive before 11:30; after that it gets crowded and the broth is said to be thinner. We arrived at 10:54 and the door opened four minutes later.

Tip: when the door opens, one person should grab a table while the other takes a waiting number. I saw the sign and took a number right away, but several people ahead of us grabbed tables without numbers, and the owner firmly served in number order, which caused complaints. So we ended up eating quickly. I felt bad and could have yielded, but I didn’t know who was which number. When you go in, split up: one for the table, one for the number.

This place was featured on Wednesday Food Talk, and you can see celebrity autographs, including Jeon Hyeon-mu’s.

They only serve bomal kalguksu, so that’s what we had. You have to order at least two servings, which is sad for solo diners.

The kimchi here is really delicious, and kimchi is the truth of kalguksu. My husband and I kept saying how good the kimchi was.

It looked delicious. They say adding bean sprouts makes it better, and if you like it spicy, add chili peppers. It can be a bit bland, so season with salt for the full flavor.

It tasted like seaweed soup.

This is bomal, the Jeju sea snail. The noodles were good, but even better was ordering rice and mixing it into the broth. Personally, the rice was even better than the noodles. They could sell bomal gukbap and it would do well.

Be sure to order rice and mix it in. Another restaurant success this trip.
