Yeouido Cherry Blossom Picnic Festival 2017: Music, Food and Fireworks

Yeouido Cherry Blossom Picnic Festival 2017: Music, Food and Fireworks

We had been to this cherry blossom festival the year before, but the 2017 lineup was the best ever: Zion.T, Roy Kim, Lee Hi, Eric Nam, AKMU, San E, and Epik High, with a fireworks show to close. The picnic zone also hosted indie bands, so there was plenty to see.

We arrived in Yeouido around noon. The crowds were enormous, and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. From Yeouinaru station it was quite a walk to the venue.

But walking while looking at the flowers outside felt wonderful.

The weather that year was perfectly clear, so it felt like a spring picnic.

The flowers were in full, full bloom.

Right away we got our cherry blossom picnic wristbands and food tickets.

We got 11 food tickets, worth 55,000 won. Then we headed to the flower zone to browse the goods.

From the market to the food, there was so much to see.

The Sweet Monster shop caught our eye, so we ordered right away.

We bought Real Deep Milk and Monster Churros.

A bite of ice cream: exactly the milk ice cream I love.

And a bite of churro. The food court was separate, and the lines were insane.

Even with coupons, ordering one thing meant waiting about an hour. Still, we ordered tteokbokki, takoyaki, bulgogi dogs, and cupbap. Buying food took nearly 90 minutes. Then there was Mohito-kki, which had caught our eye as we passed.

It was a shop selling mojitos, non-alcoholic of course.

They make the mojito right in front of you, and the refreshing mojito we tried was delicious, according to my husband.

The food we brought from the food court, plus the cherry blossom mat they handed out that year. It was disappointingly smaller than the previous year’s, but the pink color was pretty and totally my taste.

The pretty cherry blossom fan added to the mood.

The first performance was Zion.T, such an emotional singer, with a unique but effortless singing style.

We arrived later than the previous year, so we sat in the back and could not see well, but the music came through loud and clear.

The crowds were huge. There was some fine dust that day, so we both wore masks.

Second up was Roy Kim, who was actively promoting his album, with a new song and concert coming in May.

Then Lee Hi. I am a Lee Hi fan, and honestly part of the reason we came was to see her.

Her voice was so good, and her stage manners were perfect. She has become a total pro. Since Lee Hi is a singer I love, I filmed a lot.

While watching Lee Hi, my husband brought American-style steak.

The food court food was not mind-blowing, but we were eating on food tickets. We would have liked to see more performances, but we were tired, so we skipped the last three and left. We missed AKMU, Eric Nam, San E, and Epik High, which was a shame, but I had been badly ill with a cold until recently, so taking care of my health mattered too.

The 2017 Lifeplus Cherry Blossom Picnic Festival had even more to see and eat than the previous year.

Thanks to it, we had a fun spring outing after a long time. A treat for the eyes with full-bloom cherry blossoms, a treat for the ears with music, a treat for the belly with food. A thoroughly pampered day.

Reluctantly we wrapped up our spring outing, and my husband and I took the KTX back to Buldang-dong, Cheonan.

The leftover coupons bought pretty bottled drinks, totally my taste. That wraps up our day at the cherry blossom festival — the cherry blossom festival was crowded but beautiful, and the cherry blossom festival food stalls were a highlight.
