Our Tongyeong trip started with a long bus ride from Suwon terminal. Peak season traffic turned four and a half hours into six, but two movies and some car selfies made it bearable. By the time we arrived near 5 p.m., we were ready for our Tongyeong homestay.
The Airbnb homestay
Peak season hotels were too expensive, so we booked this Tongyeong homestay through Airbnb and compromised on price. A small country road led to a peanut-shaped house where a young couple lives on the first floor and rents two rooms upstairs.

Our room was small, cozy, and quiet. In the morning the host served delicious toast and coffee, a taste of Tongyeong hospitality, and the price stayed friendly even in high season.

Jungang Market in the evening
We headed out for dinner and sightseeing, first stop Jungang Market. It works like a seafood center: pick your raw fish and eat at the shop next door.

The fish were impressively huge, including a giant flatfish we had to photograph. We had another restaurant in mind for dinner, so we moved on toward Dongpirang instead.
