This is my review of Dusit Thani Mactan, the third resort we stayed at in Cebu’s Mactan area. It’s tucked away, so getting into Cebu City is a bit of a trek, but if you just want to relax, it’s a great-value resort.

Bags are screened at the entrance before check-in. The main gate is far from the resort building, so if you order delivery you’ll have to walk to the gate. Still, the resort has plenty of restaurants and good room service, so we never worried about meals.
1. Check-In and Check-Out at Dusit Thani Mactan
Check-in starts at 3 p.m. and check-out is at noon, leaving time for a relaxed breakfast and packing. Staff guided us kindly while we waited in the lounge, so check-in and check-out were smooth.

2. Our Room
We had an ocean-view deluxe room with a king bed. The modern, stylish room has a plush mattress and big windows framing the sea, a refreshing way to start the morning. There’s a large flat-screen TV, a minibar, tea and coffee facilities, a hair dryer, beach towels and every amenity you need.

The marble bathroom has a generous tub and a separate rain shower.

The shampoo and body wash are from a premium brand, and the strong water pressure washed away our fatigue. Here’s the pool and sea view from our room.

A well-kept walking path runs along the shore.
3. The Infinity Pool
The infinity pool is the star at Dusit Thani Mactan. The private beach is limited, but the pool is huge, and it blends into the horizon so it feels like swimming in the sea.

Sun loungers and parasols make it easy to swim and sunbathe even in the heat.

Beach towels are provided at the Dusit Thani Mactan pool, so you don’t need to bring your own. There are plenty of loungers, with more seating at the back.

Besides the large infinity pool, there’s a smaller pool that’s great for kids, perfect for families.

The pool is big enough for large floats, which you can also rent, and the lifeguards help inflate and deflate them.

We went back and forth between our room and the pool for hours. Next up: dining and facilities. We had breakfast and dinner at the buffet, and lunch at the beach bar and club lounge, starting with the Sunset Beach Bar.
4. Sunset Beach Bar

The Sunset Beach Bar is great for a light lunch, and since it connects to the outdoor pool, you can eat between swims.

Being open-air, it was a bit hot at midday. Light meals are served at lunch, and cocktails and bar snacks in the evening.

Lunch comes as one of three set menus. I chose fish and chips, tacos and ice cream for dessert. The food was tasty overall, and sipping cold drinks while gazing at the sea was so relaxing.
5. Breakfast and Dinner Buffet
We had breakfast and dinner at the Dusit Thani Mactan buffet throughout our stay.

The selection is huge, from Filipino dishes to Korean, Western and Japanese food.

There’s sashimi, and dishes from different countries are arranged by section.

Dinner has more fruit than breakfast. Hand over a whole mango or dragon fruit and they’ll slice it beautifully for you.

Drinks and alcohol cost extra at dinner, including beer, water and juice, which was a shame. Still, we had to try San Miguel beer in the Philippines.

Yans wanted coconut juice, and we were amazed when a coconut bigger than his head arrived.

Breakfast has slightly fewer options but is still varied. Stations make it easy to find what you want, including a kids’ station and a fruit station. Fresh fruit, warm bread and plenty of dishes filled us up.

At the omelet station, they make omelets to order with your choice of fillings. There’s a variety of coffee and juice, and drinks are free at breakfast.
6. Club Lounge
The next day we had lunch at the club lounge near the spa.

The club lounge at Dusit Thani Mactan is great value, with a pretty, upscale interior for relaxing.

Finger food at lunchtime made for an easy meal, with a variety of light bites for when you get peckish.

The lounge feels luxurious yet comfortable, perfect for a short break.
7. Spa and Massage
To make the most of our resort stay, I treated myself to the spa while Yans and my husband rested in the room.

The Dusit Thani Mactan spa was excellent: elegant, spotless facilities and a wonderful massage.

The massage melted away my tiredness and gave me a proper recharge midway through the trip. I had a single room, but there are double and triple rooms too. Disposable underwear and a gown are provided.
8. Kids Club
It wouldn’t be fair if only I got to relax, so next was the kids’ play zone Yans wanted.

It’s very large, with lots of active play equipment and staff on hand. It’s a paid facility, with day passes and hourly passes.

With a day pass, kids can play in the morning, go swimming and come back again. The price difference from the hourly pass is small, so the day pass is the better deal. Yans loved it. We had a fantastic resort stay at Dusit Thani Mactan.

Above all, it has some of the most beautiful sunsets in Cebu, so it’s worth staying at least once.

With great facilities for the price and friendly staff, it’s ideal for a relaxing resort getaway.
Prices, hours and details in this post are from our visit in May 2024 and may have changed, so check the latest information before you go.
