Hokkaido Soup Curry at Garaku Tomamu:Hotaru Street Food Guide for Families

Hi, I’m Yan — a travel creator exploring the world with my child.
Welcome to Yan’s World!

When planning a winter trip to Hokkaido, one of the most
exciting parts is enjoying warm, delicious food surrounded
by snowy landscapes. Especially for families with kids,
dining is everything.

Today I’m sharing all about Hotaru Street at Hoshino Resort
Tomamu — Japan’s first Ski-in/Ski-out dining street — and
its star restaurant, Garaku Soup Curry.

  1. What is Hotaru Street?

Resort dining can be tricky — buffets get expensive, and
venturing outside with kids in the cold is exhausting.
Hotaru Street solves all of that.

Born in December 2017 with the philosophy of enjoying food
and shopping right on the slopes, it’s a one-of-a-kind
experience. Ski down and slide right into a warm restaurant!

At night, the street lights up beautifully, creating a
magical winter atmosphere.

  1. Garaku Soup Curry — A Must-Try

Among 20+ restaurants on Hotaru Street, Garaku is hands-down
the most popular. Originally from Sapporo where people line
up for hours, finding Garaku inside Tomamu resort is a
real treat.

What makes Garaku special:

  • Broth made with 21+ spices for deep, rich flavor
  • Packed with fresh Hokkaido vegetables
  • Roasted vegetables add natural sweetness

Family-friendly tips:

  • Spice level is fully adjustable — perfect for kids
  • The whole chicken leg curry is a crowd favorite
  • Even picky eaters clean their bowl!

Note: Expect wait times during peak hours, but the
surrounding scenery makes the wait enjoyable.

  1. Other Restaurants at Hotaru Street
  • Cafe & Bar Tsukino: Hokkaido burgers and coffee.
Perfect for a warm latte while watching the snow fall.
  • AFURI: Light yuzu salt ramen — gentle and delicious
    for kids.
  • Bowl Shop: Fresh seafood and meat rice bowls.
Great for a quick energy boost between ski runs.
  1. Hoshino Resort Tomamu Tips
  • Risonare Tomamu: All suites over 100㎡ with private
jet spa and sauna — perfect for family relaxation.
  • Tomamu The Tower: A more lively, active atmosphere.
  • Ice Village: Runs December 10 to March 14.
Free for resort guests! Features an ice church,
    ice hotel, and ice bar.
