Is This Really Korea? Kyoto-Style Design

Driving toward Buk-myeon in Cheonan, a Japanese-style wooden building comes into view.
The neat timber walls and sliding-window design recall a traditional Kyoto townhouse or ryokan.

Photo spots start right at the entrance, so you’ll naturally slow down.
Cherry blossoms in spring, green forest in summer and white snow in winter: you can experience a different shade of Kyoto every season.

Inside, a tatami space opens up, with soft lighting over small tables.

The view outside the window looks like a framed painting, and with a cup of coffee it makes for a perfect, cozy break.
The Fire Pit Zone at Kyotori
The highlight of Kyotori is the outdoor fire pit zone.
In the evening, the crackle of burning logs and the warmth of the flames melt away the fatigue of city life.
Holding a warm Americano and listening to the crackling fire is more soothing than any music.
The fire pit zone is so popular that it often comes up on Instagram as a stylish fire pit cafe.

Photos taken in the orange glow at sunset are especially stunning.
I visited during the day, but I’d love to come back in the evening.
Signature Menu and Our Visit

Kyotori’s drinks are as good as its atmosphere.
The most popular menu item is the almond cream latte.
The nutty cream and rich coffee combine for a sweet yet smooth taste.

Warm yuzu tea and handmade teas are also popular, and they feel twice as cozy by the fire.
Desserts include handmade cookies and cakes, so there’s plenty to enjoy with your coffee.
Personally, I recommend an almond cream latte by the warm fire pit most of all.

Kyotori is on the outskirts of Buk-myeon, so you’ll need a car.
The parking lot is large, and groups can visit without trouble.
It’s a peaceful place to enjoy coffee surrounded by nature.
