While sorting through an old external hard drive in 2018, I found photos from a European trip about ten years earlier. Here’s Lucerne, one stop I had never shared. After a few too many beers in Interlaken the night before, I arrived in Lucerne on a groggy morning.

It was rainy and overcast, but the lake with Chapel Bridge was stunning. The bridge is the symbol and best-known landmark of Lucerne.

True to its nickname, the “Swan Lake” was full of swans.

Across the lake you can see Lucerne Station, and in the distance Mount Pilatus, a mountain wrapped in dragon legends, together with the surrounding peaks.

Lucerne in the rain has its own charm. The food and desserts here were sweet and delicious.

Another Lucerne landmark is the Lion Monument.

It honors the Swiss Guards who died defending the French royal family during the French Revolution, and their names are carved beneath the lion.

I also spotted a cute pedestrian sign showing a gentleman holding a child’s hand.

Climb the Musegg Wall and the whole of Lucerne spreads out below you. My memories from back then are hazy, but I’ll never forget that view.
