This post is for parents planning a trip to Samcheok in Gangwon-do: a place where kids can run around freely and grow their scientific curiosity.

It’s the Samcheok Children’s Science Play Center!

It isn’t just a play space but a hands-on science playground where kids learn scientific principles through play.
It’s on a completely different level from an ordinary kids’ cafe, letting children move, explore and feel the fun of science.
A Samcheok Trip With Kids: Diving Into Science

The Samcheok Children’s Science Play Center is built on STEAM education (science, technology, engineering, arts and math).

In other words, kids don’t just look; they learn science by feeling it with their bodies.

I’d describe it as “a playground for learning science through the senses.”

I watched my child move, touch and experiment, naturally picking up how science works.
Focus and Curiosity at Once: Techholic Missions

This is the most popular zone.
Motion-sensing cameras and big screens let kids complete missions and pick up science concepts naturally.

Kids move their bodies to solve problems as if playing a game, and in the process

they build observation skills, quick reflexes and thinking skills.

“Mom! The light moved!”
That one line captures what this place is about.

My child’s eyes sparkled the moment they experienced and understood a scientific phenomenon through play.
Art and Emotion Through Light and Sound

The second floor is where science meets art.
Touch the wall and glowing pictures appear, or combine different sounds to make your own music.
Kids use their senses to unleash creativity
and discover that science can be this much fun.

Light, color, sound: it’s all science.
It’s a space that naturally shows kids that art can be science too.
Fully Immersive: The 3D Science Theater

The 3D theater costs an extra 2,000 won, but I highly recommend it.
The 10-minute science film completely captures kids’ attention.

The films on space, nature and inventions are educational and very immersive.
Coming out, the kids all said, “I want to watch it again!”
It’s the perfect blend of fun and learning.
Reading and Rest Area: Learning While You Relax

The third floor is a rest area for catching your breath after the activities.
Kids can keep learning by reading science books,
while parents relax over a cup of coffee.

It’s a short break, but here kids sort out their thoughts and move on to the next question.
Isn’t that what learning through play is really about?
Good to know before you visit

The Samcheok Children’s Science Play Center runs three reserved sessions a day.
It’s open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with two hours per session.

It’s closed on Mondays, on Lunar New Year’s Day and Chuseok day, and on January 1.
Weekends are busy, so reserve in advance on the Samcheok City website.
Admission is a reasonable 2,000 won for children and teens and 4,000 won for adults.
The 3D theater costs an extra 2,000 won.
Tips
* You take off your shoes inside, so non-slip socks are a must.
* Many activities involve a lot of movement, so wear comfortable clothes.
* Head to the most popular activities first to make the most of your two hours.
Add It to Your Samcheok Itinerary
The Samcheok Children’s Science Play Center sits in the heart of Expo Town,
making it easy to build a day trip with nearby sights.
Right next door is the Cave Mystery Hall, where kids can connect what they learned to a cave experience.
Sol Beach Samcheok and Samcheok Beach are 10 minutes away by car,
so you can learn at the center in the morning and finish the day with a seaside walk.
Isabu Lion Park, with its wide-open East Sea views, is also a great walk for families.
The Samcheok Children’s Science Play Center is truly “a place to learn science through play.”
At first I thought it was just a good place for kids to play,
but watching my child’s curiosity grow, I realized how educational it is.
Admission is cheap, but the experience is far richer.
It’s a space where kids naturally ask “Why?”
and the real charm is watching them find the answers themselves.
If I had to pick just one place to visit with kids in Samcheok,
I’d choose this one without hesitation.
The family trip itself was the best gift.
