Sokcho Daepohang: Fried Shrimp Alley
If you visit Sokcho, Daepohang Port is a must. The port is famous for fried shrimp, with a whole alley of fry shops. I had visited three years earlier with a friend and remembered the taste, so I stopped by again on this trip to Sokcho Daepohang.

Shrimp are piled up like this, and they fry them fresh when you order. I tried the self-proclaimed original Daepohang fried shrimp.

The shrimp were plump and tasty. The batter was not too thick, though eating a lot gets a bit greasy.

Then, back at Daepohang three years later! True to its name as the fried shrimp port, shrimp were everywhere, soon to end up in people’s mouths.

Sora Eomma: The Most Famous Shop
The most famous place in Daepohang is “Sora Eomma”. I had wanted to come here years ago but could not find it, so I ended up at a random shop. This time I was determined to visit.

As expected of a place people line up for, the staff fry in an assembly line like a big factory.

Prices are a bit high, but I had high hopes! I got some to go and ate while moving around.

It was definitely different from the shrimp I had before. The batter was crispier and seasoned, so the shrimp tasted great on its own. That explained why Sora Eomma is famous. People say it is not as good as it used to be, but compared to other fry shops, I enjoyed it.
Prices, hours and details in this post are from our visit in July 2016 and may have changed, so check the latest information before you go.
