One of my most memorable Osaka moments was the Umeda Sky Building Floating Garden, free with the Osaka Amazing Pass.
It’s an Osaka landmark and one of Japan’s 100 best sunset spots.
Watching the golden sunset slowly give way to city lights was the most beautiful time of our trip.
Free Entry With the Amazing Pass: A Budget-Friendly Start
If you’re planning an Osaka trip, the Osaka Amazing Pass is a must.
One pass gives free or discounted entry to major sights, saving a lot on your trip.

The Umeda Sky Building Floating Garden is one of the popular sights included.
Regular admission is 2,000 yen for adults, but it’s free with the pass if you enter before 3 p.m.
Sunset starts between 4 and 6 p.m., so entering around 2:30 p.m. to claim a spot is ideal.

We entered around 2:30 and waited for sunset over a warm drink at the cafe inside.
As time passed, the sky beyond the glass changed and the city’s shadows grew longer, the start of an Osaka afternoon you can only see here.

One of Japan’s 100 Best Sunsets

The sunset is what makes the Umeda Sky Building Floating Garden special.
Osaka’s sunset from the rooftop deck 173 meters above the ground is breathtaking.

The whole city glows warmly as the sky shifts from orange to red.
A city turning gold

In the golden hour, the last 30 minutes before sunset, everything glows softly.
Sunlight reflects off every window and car lights stretch out,
turning downtown Osaka into a giant canvas.

Looking west, the sun slowly sinks below the horizon
as the whole sky turns red and gold.
“It’s so beautiful” is all you can say.
It’s a moment to capture with your eyes rather than a camera.
Magic Hour After Sunset
After the sun sets, a soft purple lingers in the sky.
This is the magic hour.
Before the light fades completely, city lights flicker on one by one in beautiful contrast.
Umeda at this hour is calm yet full of life.
From the rooftop, you can feel the city’s rhythm as lights twinkle
between the Dojima River and the high-rise forest.
At night, the Lumi Sky Walk under your feet sparkles like starlight.
The soft glow rising from the floor resembles the afterglow,
so the sunset’s mood lingers on.
How to Get to the Umeda Sky Building

It’s about 7–10 minutes from JR Osaka Station.
The walk itself feels like a little journey.
* Exit JR Osaka Station via the central north exit and head toward Grand Front Osaka
* Past the big intersection, an underground passage connects to the building
(No road crossings, so it’s safe and convenient.)
* At the Sky Building, ride the see-through escalator up to the 35th floor.
It feels like flying into the sky, a moment not to miss.
Relaxing While You Wait for Sunset

The observatory has several spots to relax while waiting for sunset.
The 40th-floor cafe offers coffee with panoramic city views,
and the 39th-floor shop has cute goods and Osaka-only souvenirs.

After your visit, stop by Takimi-koji, the restaurant street in the basement.
Its retro streets recreating 1920s Japan and Osaka favorites like okonomiyaki and kushikatsu
make a perfect end to the sunset.

The Umeda Sky Building Floating Garden is more than a place with a view.
In the short time when afternoon turns to evening,
you feel the changes of light and shadow with your whole body.
Osaka’s sunset isn’t flashy, but it’s deep and warm.
The wind blows, the sky turns red,
and for that moment every bit of travel fatigue disappears.
If you have the Osaka Amazing Pass,
put this on your itinerary and see one of Japan’s 100 best sunsets in person.
