Bupyeong Pungmul Festival : Schedule Guide for Families in Incheon

Bupyeong Pungmul Festival 2026: Why October 4

Bupyeong Pungmul Festival: Pungmul drummers parading down Bupyeong-daero

Looking for an autumn festival in Incheon with kids? The Bupyeong Pungmul Festival celebrates pungmul, Korea’s traditional percussion and folk performance. Sunday, October 4 packs in a kids’ show, international folk music, a student drumming contest and a closing concert, so here is how to plan just that day.

Festival Basics

Main stage set up on Bupyeong-daero
  • Date: Sunday, October 4, 2026
  • Venue: Bupyeong-daero, Incheon

The street festival is split into a main stage, Pungmul Plaza, the Dream Stage and street zones. You do not need to see everything; with kids, three to four hours from late morning to mid-afternoon is realistic. Stay longer if you want the closing show.

Start with the Hello Carbot Show

Hello Carbot and Berry sing-along on the main stage

For families with little ones, the first thing to check is the Hello Carbot × Berry sing-along on the main stage, at 11:00–12:00 and 13:00–14:00. Back-to-back traditional performances can feel long for young kids, so catch the 11 a.m. show and explore, or have lunch and come for the 1 p.m. show.

World Folk Music at Pungmul Plaza

From 12:00 to 13:00 at Pungmul Plaza, a Nepali ensemble performs Naumati Panchebaja, traditional Nepalese wedding music. It is fun to compare with Korean pungmul; ask your kids which instruments they spot and how the rhythms differ.

Student Pungmul Contest

Students performing at the national pungmul contest

The 27th National Student Pungmul Contest (middle and high school divisions) runs 10:00–15:30 on the Dream Stage, with awards at 2:30 p.m. Watching kids not much older than yours play traditional drums can be more inspiring than any pro troupe.

Master Performers in the Evening

Master and apprentice traditional performance at dusk

From 17:30 to 19:00 at Pungmul Plaza, three master performers take the stage with their apprentices. If you want one truly traditional performance at the Bupyeong Pungmul Festival, this is it; with little ones, choose either the daytime or evening program instead of staying all day.

Free Bupyeong History Tour

The festival also runs a 90-minute walking tour from the history tour booth past the old military railway, Camp Market and Bupyeong Park, ending at Bupyeong Station. Tours leave at 10:00, 13:00 and 16:00, with 20 spots each, first come, first served. It is free; children must be with a guardian.

At 90 minutes on foot, it suits elementary kids better than toddlers.

Closing Concert

Closing concert on the main stage at night

The closing concert, “From Bupyeong to the World,” runs 19:00–20:30 on the main stage with percussion group Gori, samulnori team Jinsoe, Bupyeong youth pungmul groups and the district troupe. The finale, “Bupyeong Pungmul Manmanse,” follows; listings say either 20:30–21:00 or 21:00, so check on the day. With young kids, skip it and enjoy the daytime program instead.

Getting There

This is a street festival with limited parking, so take the subway: Bupyeong Station (Line 1 and Incheon Line 1) or Bupyeong Market Station (Incheon Line 1). You can walk the festival route and leave from a different station.

Suggested Route with Kids

Families enjoying the street festival zones
  • 11:00 Hello Carbot × Berry sing-along
  • 12:00 Nepali folk music
  • Lunch
  • Stamp tour and street programs
  • 13:00 Second Carbot show or the student contest

Three to four hours is enough. Older kids can add the 4 p.m. history tour, dinner and the 7 p.m. closing concert for a full day.

Drummers and crowds at the festival's closing day

The closing day of the Bupyeong Pungmul Festival packs in plenty for families, from character shows to student drummers, Nepali folk music and a history walk. With young kids, focus on 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; with older kids, add the tour or the closing concert.
