Hakdong Mongdol Beach in Geoje: Clear Water and Smooth Pebbles

Hakdong Mongdol Beach in Geoje: Clear Water and Smooth Pebbles

Mongdol is a truly beautiful beach. With no sand, there is no sticky feeling, and true to the South Sea, the water was so clear. Unlike the day before, though, trash was overflowing around the beach. For water so clear you could see the bottom, there was debris floating in it. The moment I arrived, I exclaimed at how dirty the water looked. That is how bad it was.

Still, the water itself was incredibly clear.

You could see the bottom rippling through the water like this.

My husband went in fully armed with sunscreen. With the wedding date not far off, he could not tan.

I was not feeling well and still recovering from a past burn, so I just watched this time. I was fully covered up too. The beach was so pretty and the weather so good that every photo came out like a painting.

I was fully covered this time too: legs, arms, neck, face. When it felt hot, I cooled off by dipping just my legs in the water.

My husband washed up by the waves. I enjoyed just dipping my feet. The water was not cold like the West Sea, just refreshingly cool.

My husband kept flashing V signs at me. The blue sea was as beautiful as any foreign sea, such a feast for the eyes.

Mongdol Beach sold pouch cocktails, so we bought two and savored our vacation. We should have had mojitos, but neither of us likes mojitos, so we sipped Junebug and Peach Crush. A cocktail facing the sea was perfection.

And the unmissable selfie. The sky, lying on Mongdol Beach and looking up, was so pretty. I took photos of my husband at Mongdol too. It was getting dusky by then.

The mongdol pebbles were so pretty I wanted to take some home, but removing them is prohibited, so I captured them with my eyes and camera. Cute, tiny pebbles. Mongdol Beach had clear water and was lovely, but the biggest shame was the trash left by tourists and the poor maintenance. If people did not litter and it were well maintained, it would be an even more beautiful beach.

Hakdong Black Pearl Mongdol Beach gave me my last vacation as a single woman before marriage. So many happy memories. Next time I visit, I hope to find a cleaner Mongdol.

Prices, hours and details in this post are from our visit in August 2016 and may have changed, so check the latest information before you go.
