Heungtaryeong Dance Festival : What to Expect

Dancers in colorful costumes at the Cheonan Heungtaryeong Dance Festival

The 2026 Cheonan Heungtaryeong Dance Festival runs five days, October 1–5, at Cheonan Sports Complex and Cheonan Samgeori Park. It goes far beyond stage dance: an international dance contest, a street dance parade, street dance battles, random play dance and kids’ job experiences. With 24 countries in the international contest, it is a surprisingly good world-culture outing for elementary kids.

Festival stage at Cheonan Sports Complex
  • Dates: Thursday, October 1 – Monday, October 5, 2026, 10:00–22:00
  • Venues: Cheonan Sports Complex (208 Beonyeong-ro, Seobuk-gu) and Cheonan Samgeori Park (Samnyong-dong, Dongnam-gu)
  • Admission: free

Programs at the sports complex start October 1, but the main Samgeori Park programs begin October 3.

Why It’s Great for Families

The core is a national dance contest and an international contest with 25 teams from 24 countries. Ask your kids, “Which country is this dance from?” and you have a world-culture lesson. Add street dance, breaking, cheerleading and random play dance, plus the CIDC street dance championship with 16 countries and a breaking world final.

The Must-See: Street Dance Parade

Street dance parade through Sinbu-dong

If you can only pick one day, choose Friday, October 2 at 7 p.m. for the street dance parade, along about 550 m from Bangjugan Five-way Junction to Terminal Intersection in Sinbu-dong. The whole street becomes a stage, about 2,000 seats are planned, and traffic is closed in the area. Arrive early; this is the festival’s biggest crowd draw.

What Kids Can Do

Kids at the children's job experience zone

Kids’ job experiences, activity booths, a food zone and food trucks make it easy to mix: a show, an activity, a snack, another show. Random play dance invites the audience to join when a song they know comes on.

Pump It Up World Championship stage

Rhythm-game fans will love the Pump It Up World Championship, a real competition, not a casual arcade.

World Dance in One Place

International dance troupes parading in Samgeori Park

Samgeori Park hosts a parade of about 600 dancers from 23 countries along a 600 m promenade. You see costumes, music and dance from around the world without leaving Korea; look up the countries together with your kids.

Different at Night

Night EDM dance event at the festival

The sports complex hosts “DANCEFLEX: EDM Heung Night,” and Samgeori Park has a silent disco with wireless headphones. With little ones, focus on three to five hours of core programs rather than staying until 10 p.m.

Which Day to Go

Crowds at the Heungtaryeong Dance Festival in the afternoon

October 2 is for the street parade at 7 p.m. October 3–5 adds Samgeori Park, with the international parade and random play dance. For a first family visit, October 3–5 is easier to plan; for the most spectacular scenes and video, do not miss the October 2 parade.

Parking and Shuttles

Free festival shuttle bus stop

Cheonan expanded free shuttles from three to four routes in 2026 and runs temporary lots. Sinbu-dong closes to traffic during the October 2 parade, so use the official lots and shuttles. Stops can change, so check the official site before you go.

Nearby Cheonan Sights

Independence Hall of Korea in Cheonan

The Independence Hall of Korea has large outdoor spaces and the Gyeore Tower, great for history talks with kids; visit in the morning before the Heungtaryeong Dance Festival. For calm, Gakwonsa Temple is a peaceful autumn walk. Near the parade route, Arario Square has large outdoor sculptures for photos and a rest.

Suggested Family Routes

Family enjoying a dance performance together
  • Daytime: Independence Hall → lunch → Samgeori Park → activities → international dance → food zone → evening shows
  • Parade day (October 2): downtown → Arario Square → early dinner → Bangjugan Junction → 7 p.m. parade

One festival venue plus one nearby sight a day is realistic.
