Gongju Baekje Cultural Festival with Kids: A Two-Day Route Through UNESCO Sites

Gongju Baekje Cultural Festival : A Two-Day Plan

Gongju Baekje Cultural Festival lights on the Geumgang River

If you are taking elementary kids to the Gongju Baekje Cultural Festival, skip back-to-back shows and follow history instead: King Muryeong’s Tomb → Gongju National Museum → the festival grounds → Gongsanseong Fortress, over two days.

Quick Summary

Festival grounds at Geumgang Singwan Park
  • Dates: October 3–11, 2026 (nine days)
  • Hours: 11:00–22:00 per official listings
  • Main areas: Geumgang Singwan Park, Gongsanseong and the old royal town
  • Best for: a one-night, two-day trip
  • Key themes: King Muryeong, Ungjin-era Baekje, Gongsanseong

The 72nd festival includes official ceremonies, rites, parades, shows, exhibitions and activities. Buyeo holds its own festival at the same time, but do not try both cities in one day with kids.

Who Will Love It

Elementary kids exploring a Baekje exhibit

Elementary kids starting Baekje history at school and families who like walking fortress walls and royal tombs. It is more about history and experience than shows.

Two-Day Route

King Muryeong's Tomb and royal tombs in Gongju

Day 1: 10:00 King Muryeong’s Tomb and royal tombs → 12:00 lunch → 13:30 Gongju National Museum → check in and rest → 17:00 festival at Geumgang Singwan Park → dinner → night shows and lanterns.

Day 2: 09:00 Gongsanseong → heritage guide tour → walk along Jeminchen stream → lunch → one cafe → head home.

Tomb stone inscription exhibit at the museum

Ask kids how we know who is buried in King Muryeong’s tomb: the epitaph stones recorded the king and queen, a rare find in Korean archaeology.

Hours, Fees and Tickets

Gongsanseong Fortress walls and gate

King Muryeong’s Tomb and royal tombs: 09:00–18:00 (March–October), last entry 30 minutes before closing; adults 3,000 won, teens 2,000 won, children 1,000 won. Free heritage tours run on the hour from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Gongsanseong: same hours and fees, free parking; the walls have slopes and stairs. Gongju National Museum: 09:00–18:00, closed Mondays, January 1, Seollal and Chuseok; permanent exhibits are free.

Parking and Transport

Traffic and parking near the festival grounds

The festival spreads across Geumgang Singwan Park, Gongsanseong and the old town. Regular lots at Gongsanseong and the royal tombs are free, but festival traffic is different, so check the final parking and shuttle notices.

Evening walk along Jeminchen stream

Stay within walking distance of Gongsanseong or Jeminchen and leave the car at night. By public transport, use Gongju Bus Terminal and local buses or taxis.

What to Pack

Families on the riverside at dusk with jackets

October evenings by the Geumgang River are chilly. Bring a light windbreaker, a small seat cushion, water and a power bank, and agree on a meeting point in case you get separated. A wristband with a guardian’s phone number is a good idea.

Food and Cafes

Cafe street near Jeminchen stream

Festival food vendors were being recruited as of July 27, 2026, so menus and payment methods may change. Choose one cafe near Jeminchen or Gongsanseong based on walking access rather than parking, and eat dinner before the evening crowds.

Pros and Cons

The Gongju Baekje Cultural Festival links UNESCO World Heritage sites, a museum, parades and night views in one trip, which is ideal for kids learning Korean history.

Gongsanseong Fortress at night

Downsides: venues are scattered, final timetables and parking or shuttle notices may come late, and Gongsanseong’s slopes can tire little legs.

Safety Notes

Evenings by the river feel cold, and it is easy to lose hold of a child in crowds. Keep kids away from the edges of the fortress walls.
