Andong Maskdance Festival 2026 with Kids: Hahoe Village and the Festival in Two Days

Andong Maskdance Festival 2026: The Plan

Masked dancers performing at the Andong Maskdance Festival

For the Andong Maskdance Festival with kids, we recommend a two-day trip: Hahoe Village by day and the festival downtown in the evening. Want the opening ceremony and fireworks? Go on September 25. Prefer calmer cultural activities? Choose a weekday daytime.

One warning: the venue listed as “Jungang Line 1942 Andong Station” is the old station, now a cultural space, not the current KTX Andong Station.

Festival Essentials

Festival grounds at Talchum Park in Andong

The 2026 Andong Maskdance Festival runs September 24 – October 4 at the old Andong Station, Talchum (Mask Dance) Park, the old town and Hahoe Village. The eve event starts September 24 at 6 p.m., and the opening ceremony is September 25, 18:00–20:00, ending with fireworks, after an afternoon parade through the old town.

Who It’s Best For

Kids decorating traditional masks

Elementary kids who love traditional culture, dance and costumes, and creative activities like mask making. Hahoe Village adds a living picture of Joseon-era life.

Large drums and crowds at the opening ceremony

If your child is sensitive to loud drums and fireworks, watch from further back and bring kids’ earplugs.

Two-Day Route

Day 1 links Hahoe Village and the festival.

Hahoe Village thatched houses and alleys

10:00 arrive at Hahoe Village → Hahoe World Mask Museum → village alleys and Mansongjeong pine grove → lunch → rest at the hotel → 17:00 old town → parade and opening ceremony → fireworks.

Wolyeonggyo Bridge in Andong

Day 2: choose Wolyeonggyo Bridge or the Andong Folk Museum, relax in a cafe and head home.

Hahoe Village Hours and Fees

Entrance to Hahoe Village with shuttle stop

From April to September, last entry is 5:30 p.m. Admission is 5,000 won for adults, 2,500 won for teens and 1,500 won for children aged 7–12. Public parking is free, and the shuttle from the parking lot and mask museum to the village is included. Two adults and one elementary child: 11,500 won.

Parking and Getting There

Venues are split between the old town and Talchum Park, so do not just type “Andong mask festival” into navigation; enter the exact area you are visiting.

Old Andong Station cultural space

The old Jungang Line 1942 Andong Station is a cultural space in the former station; confusing it with the current KTX station can put you far from the festival.

Tips with Kids

Pick a meeting point in case you get separated and use a wristband with a guardian’s number. Bring a seat cushion, water, a light layer and a power bank.

Quiet alley between historic houses in Hahoe

At Hahoe Village, people still live in the houses, so remind kids not to touch the heritage buildings, run or shout.

Food and Cafes

At Hahoe Village, look for kid-friendly options like Andong jjimdak (braised chicken), salted mackerel and noodles.

On festival nights, eat around 4:30–5 p.m. before the crowds. Pick a cafe near Wolyeonggyo or on your way to the hotel.

Pros and Cons

Mask dance performance at Hahoe Village

Pros: you combine a UNESCO World Heritage village with traditional performances, adding history and culture naturally. Cons: venues are spread out and opening day is crowded for parking and food; if you are staying for fireworks, rest midday.

Notes

Details on 2026 Hahoe performances, the Seonyu Julbullori fire-rope show, temporary parking and shuttles may still be updated.
