Hoshino Resort Tomamu Ice Village: Hours, Admission & Complete Winter Guide

Minus 30°C. An entire village built from ice. And a child wide-eyed at every turn — this is Tomamu’s Ice Village.

2. Inside the Ice Village: What to See & Do

Stepping through the entrance feels like walking into a real-life Frozen — and the magic doesn’t wear off.

Ice Dome The most popular spot with kids. New this season: an enclosed space surrounded by ice walls where children run, play, and lose all track of time.

① Ice Bar: Cocktails in Ice Glasses

Everything — shelves, counter, glasses — is made of ice. Alcoholic cocktails for adults, non-alcoholic options for children. The whole family can clink ice glasses together. Unforgettable.

② Ice Ramen & Marshmallow Roasting

New this season: the Ice Restaurant serves cold ramen in a frozen bowl — chilled noodles with a surprisingly satisfying bite. Strange, delicious, and completely unique to Tomamu.

Outside, fire pits are scattered throughout the village. Roasting marshmallows over an open flame in sub-zero temperatures — somehow the sweetest marshmallow you’ve ever tasted.

③ Ice Slide & Ice Rink

The ice slide runs from the village observation deck all the way down — adults and children alike rediscover their inner child on this one. Right beside it, a natural ice rink lets you skate under an open Hokkaido winter sky.

3. Tomamu Nights: Drone Show & Fireworks

(1) Christmas Drone Show — Japan’s First Permanent Show

  • Period: December 6–25, 2025
  • Times: 7:00 PM & 9:30 PM (twice nightly)
  • Location: Hotaru Street
  • Details: ~500 drones form Santa Claus, Hokkaido wildlife, and Tomamu The Tower in the night sky. After Christmas, a second show themed around Ice Village begins — great news for January visitors too.

(2) Church on the Water Fireworks

After the drone show ends, fireworks launch above the Church on the Water inside Ice Village — the perfect romantic finale to a Tomamu evening.

4. Essential Visitor Tips

🧥 Warmth is survival, not style Tomamu can reach -20°C to -30°C. Prioritize: heat-tech base layers, thick down jacket, ear covers, hand warmers. No exceptions.

👟 Footwear matters The entire village is snow and ice underfoot. Insulated, non-slip winter boots are essential. Add ice cleats for extra safety — especially with children.

👶 Traveling with kids Children will sweat playing — pack spare underwear and a small towel. They’ll thank you later (even if they won’t admit it).

Ice Village is one of those experiences that photographs beautifully but feels even better in person. The cold becomes part of the magic — every breath visible, every surface sparkling, every child’s laugh echoing off walls of ice.

If you’re planning a Hokkaido winter trip, build your entire itinerary around being at Tomamu for Ice Village. It is, without question, worth it.
