Hyeopjae Beach: Jeju’s Clearest Shallow Water
On our May 2017 babymoon trip to Jeju Island, we went looking for one truly beautiful beach. The moment we arrived at Hyeopjae Beach, we gasped. The photos came out shaky, but in person the beach was stunning: fine white sand, shallow water, and a glowing water color.

Water So Clear You Can See Your Feet
The water at Hyeopjae Beach was unbelievably clear.

Even with our legs dipped in, we could see straight through to the bottom. Schools of tiny fish darted past, and patches of seaweed swayed in the shallows. It was already May and a few brave swimmers were in the water, but at 23 degrees the sea still felt cold to me. I would want it closer to 28 degrees before swimming.

A Stroll and the Cute Shops Around the Beach
We walked along the shore with our feet in the water, and when we stepped back onto land our feet dried in no time. No sticky feeling at all, which made Hyeopjae Beach even more pleasant.

Palm trees, the kind you see all over Jeju, lined the area.

There was even a snack bar built from shipping containers in Hyeopjae style.

Plenty of restaurants lined the street, but we were too full to try any, so we just browsed with our eyes.

We stayed at Hyeopjae Beach for a long time and left wanting to come back. Geumneung Beach sits right next door and is nice, but Hyeopjae was clearly the better of the two. One warning: parking is very tight, so peak season must get crowded.
