Nagoya Aquarium: Dolphin Show at Nagoya Port

Nagoya Aquarium

The place my nephew looked forward to most: Nagoya Aquarium! Take the subway from Sakae Station, get off at Nagoya Port, and walk to reach it.

Way to Nagoya Aquarium

It had rained the day before, so the weather was cloudy and very cold.

The domed building in the distance is the aquarium!

There is a Ferris wheel at the aquarium too, but it did not seem to be running.

The entrance to the aquarium. It was crowded even on a weekday, with families and kindergarten groups. Japanese kids’ uniforms are shorts and skirts even in this cold weather, with bare legs, which surprised me. Kids walking around bare-legged in this cold!

Buying tickets! The price was higher than expected.

Dolphins right inside the aquarium! Nagoya Aquarium is famous for exactly this: the dolphin show! Luckily it was starting right as we arrived, so we could watch immediately.

They say water splashes a lot if you sit in front, so I sat toward the back. I sat here because the screen is in the center.

But the far side turned out to be the center.

The opening video started playing.

Finally, it began!

The dolphins even greet nicely!

High jumps!

They spin hula hoops too.

The dolphins even lead applause. How much practice must they have done? More than amazing, the dolphins looked pitiful. These kids who should be in the wide ocean, training like this in a small aquarium to be shown to people, made me sad.

Inside the aquarium there are various other animals too. I think I have seen enough of dolphins and orcas. Next, off to Osu Kannon!

Prices, hours and details in this post are from our visit in July 2016 and may have changed, so check the latest information before you go.
