Planning Our Okinawa Trip: Choosing a Traditional Wooden House Stay

We’d booked the flights to Okinawa, and with 10 months to go, it felt early, but we dove into choosing our Okinawa accommodation. We didn’t even plan our honeymoon (we married in November, decided in July) this carefully. Ten months out and already excited! But the Okinawa accommodation I want is already fully booked for good dates through June, so I booked early in case I forget later and lose it. Browsing these listings might make you want to fly to Okinawa too. Our Okinawa trip in 10 months is a healing trip! So we picked our Okinawa accommodation for healing: first, close to the sea, and a wooden house with a traditional Japanese feel!!

I’d fallen for the traditional house where Gong Hyo-jin and Jo In-sung stayed in the drama “It’s Okay, That’s Love,” dreaming of staying in one in Japan, but it turned out to be a restaurant, not lodging, called Uhuya. So I found a similar but more Okinawan place. It’s not a super-luxury hotel, but here our Okinawa trip will feel more special.

We’d done hotels, resorts and pool villas on past trips, so this time we chose somewhere nature-friendly where we can feel Japan up close. First, the reviews are amazing. And there’s a hammock Kkolttugi will love.

There’s a wooden deck in front, right by nature.

A pretty Japanese kitchen. It reminds me of Kamome Diner. A truly pretty house.

And the bathroom.

You can climb a ladder to the rooftop, where they say you can see stars pouring across the night sky.

There’s even a cat. You just feed it, they say. Animal-lover Kkolttugi will love it.

I’m already looking forward to a leisurely Okinawa trip.

And there’s a beach right nearby.

There’s a cool cafe street, haha.

In November the weather might be too cold for swimming, but we can enjoy simple marine sports.

You can kayak and boat too.
