Here’s our review of Suyang Sikdang Goseong, a must-visit restaurant on any Gyeongnam Goseong trip.

It has appeared on several Korean TV food shows, and as of our 2025 visit, its value and generosity still drew lines of locals and travelers.
The Power of an Old Restaurant: What Is Suyang Sikdang?

Driving along the road in Donghae-myeon, Suyang Sikdang Goseong quietly stands out amid the countryside.
After all the TV appearances, expectations were high, but a visit made it clear why it’s Goseong’s top sashimi set meal spot.
* Location: 1590 Donghae-ro, Donghae-myeon, Goseong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do
* Hours: 11:30–18:30 (closes early when ingredients run out)
* Parking: plenty of space next to the building
* Menu: a single set meal for 8,000 won
It’s close to the Goseong Dinosaur Museum, Danghangpo and Sangjogam, so it fits naturally into a trip.
Wild Sashimi for 8,000 Won? A Shocking Price

The set meal at Suyang Sikdang is the ultimate in value.
A wild sashimi set for 8,000 won is almost unheard of anywhere else.
The owners told us they prepare sashimi from seasonal fish they catch themselves, and most side dishes use vegetables from their garden.
The touch of a restaurant that has held its spot for over 40 years was still there.
The Spread (Varies by Season)

Here’s what we got.
* Chewy wild-caught sashimi (fish caught that day)
* A plate of grilled or fried fish
* Soy-marinated shrimp or crab
* Rolled omelet, seasoned greens, kimchi, salted seafood and black beans
* Savory soybean paste soup or a spicy fish stew-style soup

The sashimi was fresh, firm and free of any fishy smell.

The crab wasn’t salty and had a rich savoriness that kept the rice going.
The side dishes tasted like home cooking, easy to enjoy.
The lineup changes slightly with the season and the catch.
We arrived before noon to beat the lunch rush.
Most tables were already full, and later guests went straight onto the waiting list.
The sashimi portion isn’t huge, but for 8,000 won it’s generous.
The side dishes are so substantial that it’s more than enough for a meal.

The biggest feature is that nothing is overpowering.
The seasoning is light and clean, so anyone can enjoy it.

Crowds surged after the TV appearances, and it was easy to see why the lines continue at Suyang Sikdang Goseong.
Tips to Avoid the Wait

Tips from our visit:
* On weekdays, arriving before noon is safest
* On weekends, expect a 30-minute to one-hour wait
* After 4 p.m., ingredients may run out
* Groups of two or more get more out of the full spread
* After eating, head to Danghangpo, the Dinosaur Museum or Sangjogam for a natural route

“Wild sashimi set meal at this price” is no exaggeration.
With value, freshness and neat side dishes, it was a great meal that lifted our whole Goseong trip.

Next time we’re in Goseong, we’ll put it back on the itinerary.
The honest character of an old restaurant remains, making Suyang Sikdang Goseong a hearty stop between sights.
