Location was what I weighed most when choosing a hotel in Taipei. On a family trip, distance to the metro, nearby restaurants, convenience stores and night markets matter as much as the room, and the Westgate Hotel Taipei clearly delivered on that.

The Westgate is a boutique hotel in the heart of Ximending, listed as about a one-minute walk from Exit 6 of Ximen Station, so even first-timers find it easy. Ximending stays busy at night with great shopping and food, which makes short Taipei trips efficient.

With kids, I judge hotels a little differently. Big, fancy rooms are nice, but a long walk from the station after a full day out kills the mood.

The Westgate’s location, which cut that fatigue, was its biggest strength.
Westgate Hotel Taipei: One Minute From Ximen Station

The Westgate Hotel Taipei’s top advantage is location. Near Exit 6 of Ximen Station, getting around by metro was easy, and planning trips to Taipei Main Station, Longshan Temple, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Dongmen and Taipei 101 was simple.

Ximending is one of Taipei’s most popular areas, lined with snack stalls, drugstores, cafés, shops and local eateries, so you can spend the evening without going far. With kids, eating nearby and heading back early is far more realistic than late outings.

That’s where the Westgate shines: metro to the main sights by day, food and snacks in Ximending by evening, then straight back to the hotel. The location alone made the trip noticeably less tiring.
Modern, Practical Rooms

Rooms feel like an urban boutique hotel rather than a resort. Types include Cozy, Deluxe, Premier, City View Premier, Dual Queen, Premier Dual Queen and suites.

Sizes vary: Deluxe rooms are 20㎡, Premier and City View Premier 26㎡, Dual Queen 30㎡, and Premier Dual Queen and some suites 37㎡. A standard room works for two, while families should look at Dual Queen or larger for more bed space.

For families, a Dual Queen or larger room is the realistic choice.

Rooms are clean and modern. In the middle of Ximending, focus on location, cleanliness and convenience rather than resort-sized space. Rooms aren’t huge, as is typical in central Taipei, but they cover everything you need.

With kids, check bed types. Within the same hotel, rooms may have one double, two singles or two queens, so match headcount and beds before booking. For families, actual beds matter more than room names.
Facilities Focus on the Essentials

The Westgate Hotel Taipei doesn’t have a pool or kids club like a big resort, so set expectations accordingly. Instead, it offers practical facilities for city travelers.

According to the hotel, there’s a fitness center, business center and laundry room, all open from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

For long stays and families, the laundry room is a big help. Taiwan is humid in summer and days involve lots of walking, so you change often, and laundry on site lets you pack lighter.

The gym is fine for a light workout. Still, think of this as a base for exploring Ximending and central Taipei rather than a hotel to enjoy facilities. If you want a pool, big lounge or resort amenities, it may not fit.
Especially Easy for First-Time Visitors to Taipei

Choosing the right area matters in Taipei, and Ximending is a low-risk pick: easy transport, food late into the night and great access, which pays off more the shorter your trip.

Within Ximending, the Westgate Hotel Taipei has especially good station access, which suited our family. With kids, how easily you can return to the hotel matters: a midday rest, dropping off bags or reshuffling plans when it rains.

Compared with hotels near Taipei Main Station, the Westgate feels livelier. The station area is a transit hub, while Ximending buzzes with food, shopping and street life, nicer for snacking and evening strolls with kids.
Who Should Stay at Westgate Hotel Taipei

It suits first-time visitors who prioritize location, travelers wanting to stay in central Ximending, those looking for easy metro access, families wanting shorter routes and anyone who values shopping and food nearby.

If you want big resort rooms, a pool, kids’ facilities or a stay-in vacation hotel, look elsewhere. The Westgate Hotel Taipei’s value lies in location, easy routes, clean rooms and Ximending access rather than flashy facilities.
This trip reminded me how much hotel location shapes a Taipei family trip. After a long day of walking, a short distance from station to hotel made managing energy much easier, especially with kids.

If you’re considering a Ximending hotel, the Westgate Hotel Taipei is worth a look. It’s easy for first-timers and helps you make the most of a short trip.
