As the weekend approaches, parents look for places where kids won’t get bored and can play and learn in nature. Yecheon Insect Park in Gyeongsangbuk-do isn’t a dull museum of specimens; with a thrilling monorail and a bug-themed playground for burning energy, it’s a must on any Yecheon trip.
1. Yecheon Insect Park: A Multi-Sensory Bug World

Searching for kid-friendly places around Daegu and Gyeongbuk, options feel limited. I worried insects might scare or bore my child, but that worry turned into excitement the moment we arrived.

The park has an indoor exhibition hall and outdoor facilities: the monorail, playground and Bugs Land. You can explore indoors in rain or snow and run around outside on nice days, so it works in any weather.

Basic info at the time of our visit: 1045 Eunpung-ro, Hyoja-myeon, Yecheon-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (tickets until 5 p.m.), closed Mondays. Large free parking lot. Monorail tickets are sold on site only, and weekends can mean waiting.

Weekend tip: arrive at opening. The monorail is popular, and in the afternoon it can sell out or involve waits of over an hour, so head straight to the monorail ticket office.
2. Great Value: Admission and Monorail

Cost matters when planning a trip.

Compared with private theme parks or big kids’ cafés, Yecheon Insect Park is very affordable, and you can play all day without worry.
Admission: adults 5,000 won; youth and children 4,000 won; free for preschoolers 6 and under with proof; free for multi-child families with the relevant card or documents.
Monorail: adults 5,000 won; youth and children 3,000 won.
Even with the monorail, a family of four won’t spend much. The free entry for preschoolers and multi-child families is a big perk, so bring a family certificate if it applies.
3. Wide-Eyed Kids: Exploring the Exhibits

The visit begins at the Insect Ecology Center, where giant insect models grab kids’ attention right at the entrance.

3D theater: insect animations kids love, short but immersive.

Live insect zone: see and touch rhinoceros beetles and stag beetles you’ve only seen in books.

Our child was scared at first but reached out after seeing other kids do it.

Media art zone: interactive floors that react as kids jump and run keep boredom away.

Kids learn about insect ecosystems naturally as they explore; this is learning through play.

It’s easy to see why Yecheon Insect Park always ranks near the top of family spots in Gyeongbuk.
4. Thrills Through the Forest: The Monorail
The highlight is the monorail. Cute ladybug-shaped cars loop around the whole park, and the slopes are steeper than you’d think, so even adults get a little thrill.

Route: views over the whole park and deep into the forest. Time: about 15–20 minutes. Mid-stop: you can get off at the Observatory station near the top; we highly recommend walking down from there to the playground.

Looking at the green forest outside, our child said happily, “Mom, it’s like we’re a forest exploration team!”

Little ones who tire of walking can ride comfortably, which saves parents’ energy too.
5. Energy Time: The Bug-Themed Playground (Bugs Land)
A short walk down from the monorail brings you to kids’ heaven: an outdoor playground on a completely different scale from apartment playgrounds.

Giant slides: long insect-shaped slides kids ride dozens of times. Trampoline zone: a shoes-off area for energetic kids. Forest paths: well-built decks around the playground are stroller-friendly.

While kids play and sweat, parents can rest on a bench and breathe in the forest air.

On family trips, parents’ rest matters as much as kids’ fun, and this place delivers both.
Yecheon Insect Park was a top family destination for both value and satisfaction.
Education and fun: a perfect balance of indoor exhibits and outdoor play. Low cost: free entry for preschoolers and multi-child families. A full day: the route from exhibits to monorail to playground fills the day.
If you live near Daegu, Andong or Yeongju, it’s hard to beat for a weekend outing. Swap smartphone games for real nature friends.
