As they say, even Geumgangsan comes after a meal. Off to Samcheok Port. My husband had been singing about mulhoe, so we were set on trying Samcheok Mulhoe.

Samcheok Port is lined with seafood and dried-fish markets. But buying sashimi or crab here is not recommended. I will tell you a better place.

First, the place my parents-in-law led us into: Bada Hoetjip.

We ordered gomchiguk and mulhoe. Oh, gomchiguk, my first time trying it.

Inside, celebrity autographs were everywhere, so it must be a known place. The food came out fast. This is the gomchiguk, what my mother-in-law and I ordered.

It tasted like monkfish or cod cheek, soft and tender, and I ate it deliciously. I could not eat raw fish, being pregnant, so gomchiguk had to do, but it was still amazing. And the mulhoe my husband and father-in-law ordered.

You pour this broth over the raw fish and mix. I only tasted the broth: truly cool, sour, and sweet. My husband kept exclaiming how good it was.

A hearty lunch together like this.

With a glass of soju. Actually only my father-in-law drank; everyone else had water since we had to drive.

Visiting Samcheok, you must try Samcheok Mulhoe and gomchiguk. My place was not a famous hotspot, but above average, so I recommend it. It was way better than most rumored hotspots.
Prices, hours and details in this post are from our visit in July 2017 and may have changed, so check the latest information before you go.
