Here’s our honest review of Dani LeTAO Otaru, a cafe worth visiting on any Hokkaido trip from Sapporo to Otaru. The melon dolce pudding latte was unforgettable.

The main store is great, but here’s why Dani LeTAO Otaru, with no line, won us over.
Why Everyone Heads to LeTAO in Otaru

Otaru is small, but its alleys smell of desserts. Around Sakaimachi Street there are several LeTAO shops, and your feet naturally carry you there.

Desserts made with Hokkaido milk and cheese are famous, and they live up to the hype.
The signature Double Fromage makes you think, “Ah, this is why it’s famous!” from the first bite.
The problem: the line at the main store.
Waiting 30 minutes to an hour with a child felt like too much.
So we chose Dani LeTAO Otaru instead.
LeTAO Main Store vs Dani LeTAO
LeTAO Main Store (Patisserie LeTAO Pathos)
Pros:

- Floors 1–2: every LeTAO product, with tasting corners that make gift shopping easy
- Third-floor observation cafe with a view over Otaru’s streets
- The classic place to enjoy Double Fromage
- Friendly staff who explain the products
Cons:
- A 30-minute to one-hour wait is standard
- Hard to fit into a tight itinerary
- The cafe isn’t large and window seats are hotly contested
Why We Chose Dani LeTAO Otaru

Dani LeTAO is just a one- or two-minute walk from the main store. It looks small, but it’s full of charm.

3. Quiet, comfortable atmosphere
Perfect for families traveling with kids.
Dani LeTAO Otaru Menu Review
Double Fromage
LeTAO’s signature cheesecake.
- Top layer: smooth, creamy rare cheese
- Bottom layer: rich, firm baked cheese
- The clean, deep flavor of Hokkaido milk
- Not too sweet, with a lingering finish
It’s light enough that our child loved it.

Fromage Danish
A must-order at Dani LeTAO Otaru.
- Crispy Danish pastry
- Warm cheese filling that bursts as you bite
- Pure heaven fresh from the oven
Takeout is possible, but eat it in the cafe while it’s warm, when the cream flows out.
Melon Dolce Pudding Latte (Highly Recommended)

This is the reason to go to Dani LeTAO.
I truly recommend it.

- Hokkaido melon on top
How it tastes
- Sweet pudding, fresh melon and smooth latte in perfect harmony
- Fun to spoon and sip at the same time
- Biting into the melon releases its aroma

Melon lovers must try it; it alone made the visit worth it.

Otaru Souvenir Picks

Here are the products people buy most.
Double Fromage
- Needs cold packaging
- Add ice packs if you’re bringing it home to Korea
Tenoir (cookies)
- Keeps at room temperature
- Doesn’t crumble, so it’s the safest gift
Royal Montagne (chocolate)
- Light, with elegant packaging
- Great as a special gift
Tip: for storage and value, room-temperature items are far more practical.

If you’re planning an Otaru trip, the main store is great, but for a relaxed visit without a line I strongly recommend Dani LeTAO Otaru.
