I’m introducing one of Fukuoka’s most beloved urban healing spots, Ohori Park.
The calm lake, weeping willows and sunset light make it a must-stop on any Fukuoka trip.
Ohori Park Location and Access
Its easy access from anywhere in central Fukuoka is the biggest advantage.
* Address: 1-2 Ohorikoen, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka
* Subway: Get off at Ohori Koen Station on the Fukuoka City Subway Airport Line, then 5 minutes on foot from Exit 3
* Bus: Get off at the Ohori Koen stop on Nishitetsu buses, then 5 minutes on foot
* Hours: Open 24 hours (free admission)
* Night lighting: From sunset until 22:00
It’s 10–15 minutes from Tenjin or Hakata Station, so it’s easy to fit into your itinerary.
The 2 km Walking Course: The Charm of Ohori Park

The 2 km loop around the lake is the go-to route for locals’ morning jogs and walks.
Nakanoshima: three small islands
The three islands connected by small bridges are the highlight of Ohori Park.
The Ukimido pavilion in the middle, with red pillars reflected on the lake, captures a classic Japanese mood.

Boat house rides
From March to early November, Boat House Ohori Park rents swan boats and pedal boats.
The sky and lake views of Fukuoka from the water are truly peaceful.
Bird-watching spot
In winter, hundreds of migratory birds arrive, making it a well-known spot for nature watching.
Photo Spots and Night Views at Ohori Park
Ohori Park changes mood with the time of day.

Daytime photo spots
* Starbucks Ohori Park window seats: The lake spreads out beyond the glass, a famous photo spot.
* Willow path: Weeping willows swaying in the breeze feel just like a Japanese film.
Night spots
* Nakanoshima bridges: When the lights come on, reflections on the water feel dreamy.
* Ukimido pavilion: The red pavilion glows softly over the water for a romantic mood.
3 Sights Around Ohori Park
The area offers rich cultural spaces beyond the park.
1. Ohori Park Japanese Garden (paid)
Designed in the tsukiyama rinsen style, it combines a small pond, waterfall and teahouse.
* Admission: 250 yen for adults (as of 2024)
* You can also try a tea ceremony and enjoy a quiet cup of tea.

2. Boat house and Starbucks
The Royal Garden Cafe on the 1st floor and the French restaurant Hananoki on the 2nd let you dine with lake views.
3. Maizuru Park (Fukuoka Castle ruins)
Connected to Ohori Park by a single bridge, Maizuru Park is at its most beautiful in cherry blossom season.
The walk along the old castle walls and turrets combines history and scenery.
Ohori Park, where slowness is beautiful
If you want to slow down during a busy trip, Ohori Park is the best choice.
Walking the 2 km path and watching the sunset reflected on the lake was when I felt Fukuoka’s relaxed side.
It’s a place that gives peace to families, couples and solo travelers alike.
Be sure to add Ohori Park to your Fukuoka itinerary.
The family trip itself was the best gift.
