Sapporo One-Day Itinerary: Five Must-See Spots
Odori and Susukino

Here’s a Sapporo one-day itinerary you can’t skip on a Hokkaido trip.

It gathers walkable highlights along the Odori–Susukino line, packing Sapporo’s history, food and charm into one day.
Morning Among Red Bricks: The Former Hokkaido Government Office
The best place to start is Sapporo’s icon, the former Hokkaido Government Office, known as Akarenga.
The striking red brick building, called the heart of Hokkaido, sits beside a calm pond and garden.
On clear days, the building reflects in the water like a mirror, stunningly beautiful.
It was under renovation during our 2025 visit, so check whether the exterior is open before you go.
Stepping Into History: Sapporo Clock Tower

The Sapporo Clock Tower, a 10-minute walk away, is the city’s signature landmark.
Many say it’s disappointingly small, but it’s a precious heritage site with over 140 years of history.
Built in 1878 as the drill hall of Sapporo Agricultural College (Hokkaido University), its clock still keeps accurate time.
Shoot from the street opposite to fit the whole building in the frame.
Lunch: A Fresh Seafood Bowl at Nijo Market

Nijo Market is a 10-minute walk from the Clock Tower.

Called Sapporo’s kitchen, it’s packed with fresh seafood.
Locals shop here too, so prices are reasonable.

Don’t miss a kaisendon piled with uni (sea urchin) and ikura (salmon roe).

After eating, stroll the market lanes for Hokkaido fruit jellies and mascot souvenirs.

Odori Park and Sapporo TV Tower: A Break in the City

After lunch, head to Odori Park to relax in the city.
The long east–west park hosts festivals all year.
The Snow Festival in February, the beer garden in summer and the lilac festival in May completely change its mood.
At the park’s east end stands the Sapporo TV Tower, whose observation deck shows the whole city.
Go up around sunset for both the sunset and the night view.
Beer City: Sapporo Beer Museum and Beer Garden

A few stops on the Toho subway line from Odori brings you to the Sapporo Beer Museum.

Japan’s only beer museum is free to visit.

Afterward, the paid tasting corner offers Sapporo Classic, sold only in Hokkaido,
and a three-beer sampler lets you compare flavors.
Next door, the Sapporo Beer Garden serves Genghis Khan lamb barbecue with beer.
The savory aroma and juicy meat are the true taste of Sapporo.
Night Highlights: Tanukikoji Shopping Street and Susukino

In the evening, return downtown and walk Tanukikoji Shopping Street.

The covered arcade is worry-free in snow or rain.
Drugstores, character shops and duty-free stores line the street, perfect for souvenirs.

Finally, Susukino.
At night it buzzes with neon and people.

The Nikka whisky sign is a must-shoot photo spot.
Here you’ll find Ramen Yokocho for rich miso ramen, or try a soup curry restaurant for something different.
